  • What is an Appeal?

    People who are unhappy with their trial court decision frequently say they are going to appeal the ruling. In doing so, people assume the appeal functions as a form of “retrial” or a way to have the judge come to a different conclusion by rehearing their case. However, this is not the function of an appellate court. To better understand this, it’s best to start with the question: what is an appeal? An appeal is a formal request for a higher court to review a decision made by a lower court. An appeal is not a new trial.     Need a lawyer for an Appeal? PMM Law Announces Opening of Appellate Law Division

    PMM Law is excited to announce that David Stamatis will be spearheading the opening our Appellate Law Division. At PMM law we will be able to take on appeals of most types of cases in New Hampshire. In New Hampshire, we have one appellate division of the Courts called the New Hampshire Supreme Courts. Typically, appeals involve issues of law decided at the lower court level that may have been decided incorrectly. Appeals are difficult and time consuming, and almost always require the assistance of experienced counsel. David is a former UNH Law grad, and Daniel Webster Scholar.
