  • 2018 Third Annual Pro Bono Hockey Game A Success

Sunday, January 14th was the third annual Pro Bono Hockey game between Team Justice and Team Liberty. The game was played at St. Anselm College in Goffstown, NH, which provided a great venue for the event. I was a close battle all game long. Ultimately, Team Liberty prevailed in a 6-5 overtime thriller. They were led by captain Hon. Paul Lawrence, and goalie Joe DiBrigida from Sheehan Phinney. Judge Lawrence netted a goal and two assists to pace Team Liberty, and Neil Nicholson and Justin Veiga also factored in significantly on the game. Team Justice was led by Matthew Burrows who finished with three goals to lead Team Justice. The game was a tremendous success with positive feedback from all participants and our sponsors. The game…

  • Fake Reviews!

The internet is both a wonder and a nuisance. Over the past few months, a flurry of New Hampshire attorneys and law firms have been “one-star” reviews on Google regarding the quality of their service. Some of the reviews are blank like ours, but often the reviews are filled with diatribes calling the firm “backward”, “hillbillies”, or just plain “stupid”. It is our belief that these reviews are possibly being left by a disgruntled client of a New Hampshire law firm at some point in time, or worse yet, a competing law firm in New Hampshire. This person is creating several “burner” accounts that fit a similar profile described above that either adopt nonsensical names or take the names of other New Hampshire attorneys. The…

  • Christmas Party: PMM Edition

With just a few days before one of the biggest holidays of the year, many businesses choose to reward their employees by throwing holiday parties. These festive celebrations can help reward the employees for the company’s good year while inspiring thoughts of togetherness and good cheer. However, how often do we hear about the raucousness of some holiday parties? It seems like every year, there is some national news story about allegations of sexual assault or other wildly inappropriate and dangerous behavior by superiors to subordinates or co-workers to other co-workers (e.g. this story about a supervisor who installed a stripper pole for his employees). Often, these bouts of horrendous behavior are spurred on by alcohol. Many pop culture staples have taken on the “office…

  • PMM Christmas Wishes

At Parnell, Michels & McKay, PLLC, we are in the business of conflict and conflict resolution. In carrying out our responsibilities, we often see people experiencing great difficulties, stress, and pain in their personal lives. One would think that going through that in the holiday season would take all of the joy and happiness of the season. However, over the years as we have gone through the season with our clients, what we have learned is that the magic of the season finds its way into even the most difficult of circumstances. Clients with serious and painful injuries, a mom or dad with small children experiencing their first holiday season apart after a separation, clients in many other difficult circumstances, they still manage to find…

  • Woodmont Commons Groundbreaking

Yesterday, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Woodmont Commons project was held at the old Woodmont Orchard building on Pillsbury Road in Londonderry, New Hampshire. The main roadway giving access to the Commons was named Michels Way, after the late John Michels who was Nancy Michels partner and late husband. Governor Sununu, Mayor Ted Gatsas of Manchester, Kevin Smith (Londonderry Town Manager), and Christopher Pappas of the Executive Council all joined Nancy to celebrate this seminal achievement of both the community at large and of John Michels hard work in getting the initial stages of the project moving forward. The project is a modern development that will provide walking access to businesses, retail stores, restaurants, and other amenities. The plan involves a production brewery to be…

Cathy McKay and the Woman to Woman Project

In the modern legalized world, sometimes people simply need help, advice, or education. However, many people often lack the basic means to receive such guidance. Through their kind deeds, volunteers help these people by devoting their time and providing their knowledge and expertise to those that desperately need it. Cathy McKay is one such volunteer. Apart from the countless other activities, boards, and volunteer work she participates in, Cathy is a member of the New Hampshire Woman’s Bar Association (NHWBA). The NHWBA, in conjunction with the New Hampshire Department of Corrections, developed and runs the Woman to Woman Project. The Project is focused on extending the NHWBA’s goal of “[promoting] the advancement and interests of women in the legal community through leadership, professional interaction, education,…

New Hampshire Collaborative Divorce Honors Catherine P. McKay with 2016 John Cameron Award

We are proud to announce that Catherine P. McKay has been named the 2016 John Cameron Memorial Award winner for her service towards the development of Collaborative law in New Hampshire. This award is given annually to the individual who best represents and moves forward the goals and ideals of collaborative law. The late John Cameron was once quoted by Attorney McKay as having a “collaborative heart”. He, like Catherine McKay, recognized the benefit of keeping legal disputes out of Court and allowing parties to obtain their own relief by working together. This takes the focus off of litigation and the negativity that can accompany it and instead focuses on a more progressive approach to legal problem-solving. Collaborative law is an ideal option in family…

En Banc? Not for Tom Brady, as the Second Circuit Deals Another Blow to Brady’s Appeal

On July 14, 2016, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit denied Tom Brady’s petition for a rehearing en banc. Originally, two of three judges at the Second Circuit reinstated Brady’s four-game suspension. Brady was seeking a rehearing on the matter. This decision marks a victory for what might one of the final legal milestones for Deflategate. The decision by the Second Circuit is not surprising. The Federal Court of Appeals rarely grants rehearings save for particularly far-reaching and serious cases that implicate Constitutional rights. Over the past year, New Englanders became extremely knowledgeable in the ideal gas law, the NFL’s Collective Bargain Agreement (“CBA”), and the role of a Commissioner in pro sports. While the Deflategate controversy is a personal subject for…
